In the analysis of 601 cases of autopsy processed during 10 years(1982?1991)in Departments of Pathology and Forensic Medicine, Kyungpook National University School of Medicine, Taegu, Korea, sudden unexpected death were 110 cases (18.3%) . Among them, male were 92(15.3%), and female 18(3.0%). The causes of death were cadiovascular diseases(55 cases, 50%), sudden manhood death syndrome including status thymicolymphaticus(24, 21.8%), diseases of the CNS(20, 18.0%), respiratory diseases (6, 5.5%), and gastrointestinal and hepatic diseases (3, 2.7%). The author also discussed the problems of postmortem examination, moments of sudden unexpected death, medicolegal masquerades, coexistence of trauma, establishment of the cause of death, and insurance and sudden unexpected death.
